At Label Home, we spend our days surrounded by reclaimed scaffold board, cast iron and chrome fittings — building coat racks, hook rails and lighting one piece at a time. But we didn't get into this because we wanted to "win" at homeware. We got into it because we love good design, and honestly, some of the best of it in Scotland right now isn't coming from us.
So here's a shout-out to a handful of Scottish makers and shops doing brilliant, honest work in the same spirit — industrial, handmade, a bit rough around the edges in the best way. If you love what we do, we think you'll love what they do too.
Georgie's Art Garage — Glasgow
Working out of Glasgow, Georgie's Art Garage builds bespoke industrial and upcycled furniture — dining tables, coffee tables, shelving units and bed frames — almost entirely from reclaimed wood, with much of it sourced from scaffold boards that are sanded and varnished rather than painted, preserving their original colour and character. It's a similar material philosophy to ours, just applied to bigger pieces of furniture rather than wall-mounted fittings. Georgie's Art Garage
SALVATION Glasgow
An online furniture outfit trading vintage, retro, industrial and mid-century furniture across Glasgow, Edinburgh and the wider country. If you're after an actual vintage industrial task chair or a genuine piece of retro furniture rather than a newly handmade one, this is where a lot of Glasgow interiors people go digging. The Nancy Smillie Shop — Glasgow
A long-standing Glasgow institution for art, jewellery and designer gifts, with a home and furniture section that includes lighting made in Scotland alongside curated designer pieces. It's less industrial in style and more eclectic-contemporary, but it's a lovely example of a Scottish retailer built entirely around supporting independent design. Nancy_Smillie
The Modern Croft — Oban
Run by founder Isabella McRitchie on Scotland's west coast, The Modern Croft is a physical and online store stocking a carefully curated collection of household and lifestyle goods from Scotland and beyond, shaped by an interest in simple geometric shapes, well-designed functional items, mid-century furniture and Scandinavian design. Catalog Interiors — Edinburgh
An Edinburgh interiors store offering furniture, lighting and accessories that blend Scottish makers with international design brands. A good one to visit if you want to see handmade Scottish pieces sitting comfortably next to established design names — a nice reminder that "handmade" and "considered" aren't mutually exclusive with mainstream design credibility. None of these businesses are doing exactly what we do at Label Home — and that's rather the point. Scotland's independent design scene is small enough that we'd rather see it grow together than carve it up.
